'sally' story
May I share a beautiful story with you? I interviewed a
young lady, and her story might touch you. Born in 1987 to two lower middle
class working parents my friend (shes doesn’t want to be mentioned {yet} so
lets call her Sally) had a decent and loving childhood. She admits to being
very humble and poor but they always had a roof over their head, clothes (even
if they were used), and didn’t not starve. It would get rough but she smiled
and said “I remember night when my mother and father would go with out eating
so my sister and I could because there wasn’t enough to feed us all”. I was
shocked and asked her why didn’t her parents ask for assistance like food
stamps and such.. her reply was “oh they did, but the government denied them” I
tried to dig deeper but she says she was to young to remember everything and
she didn’t mettle in her parent business when she was a child. Needless to say she
stated after that her father had actually landed a real job (not temp or
seasonal) as a welder. She wanted it noted he settled for this because went to
ITT TECH and graduated top of his class in PROGRAMMING. No one would hire him
because he was fresh out of college and in the 90s they wanted experience. Hence
why things were real rough for a few periods. After her dad began working for
this small welding company (which is now a fortune 500 LLC) her parents saved
up enough money for a down payment on a nice home. They wouldn’t be on top of
each other she said as she laughed. She remembers moving houses but things didn’t
really change as far as she know as a child. She said she was picked on as a
kid for being poor and different. Up until middle school when she said she was tired
of being bullied and big enough to swing back. This made her well liked among her peers
because when bullies would pick on the meek and weak they would go to her and
things would get fixed. Bullying people is only a suppressant she told me. High
school she said she was given the best opportunity with education only because
she worked for it and earned a scholarship. Now she said the staff never
treated her differently in fact nurtured it because her grades were phenomenal.
To the students however she was never one of them. To brief the latter part,
she faced prison and won, she faced addiction and won (a daily battle she will
always win by CHOICE), and she is disabled. Yes, physically her heart is very
weak for she had suffered a triple cardiac arrest and she has mental disability
too, highly intelligent but moody ;). She didn’t want to be on disability her
whole life and lean of the government. She said that she had an idea for a product
that isn’t invented. Payed her life’s savings into the patent EVEN had a major distribution
company interested in purchasing her idea. I was shocked! I wanted to see this
product, something she thought of to help solve a problem and set a stable
financial foundation for herself and her daughter. But guess what? SHE STILL
HAS THE PATENT BECAUSE IT IS HERS but there is no product, she said that she didn’t
have the $1000 retaining fee to the invention company to present it to the
distributer. Yep! Because she has already spent her life’s saving patenting it
she didn’t know (actually said she was misled) she would have two days to come
up with a thousand dollars to retain them to sub sell her contract to the
distributor and presentation. This was mind blowing. Right?? I felt so bad for
sally because I didn’t know what to tell her but that I would share her story
before someone else tries to claim it J
